Welcome to Brenig Stud.  Set near the town of Llandewi Brefi, two sisters, Emma and Jane (whom you might also known as Sian) run a small stud of Welsh cobs. The foundation stock dates back far beyond the official stud book and derives from a time when the real purpose of owning and breeding cobs was as work horses for the farm.  These days the mares don't have to work on the harvest to ensure their winter forage, but the two sisters still apply the same precision and care to ensure that the best stallions are used as an outcross to their mares.  As well as the Welsh cob mares, both sisters also have a Section A each, the dainty greys in direct contrast to the modestly marked Section D stock, but no less cherished than their larger field companions.

The valley through which the river Brennig runs has long been famous for breeding some very illustrious animals.  One of the most famous Welsh cobs bred at the Brenig stud was BRENIN-Y-BRYNIAU foaled in 1957 (PENTRE EIDDWEN FLYER x Flower an FS2 mare) who won the Gredington Cup at Lampeter 6 times.

At the 1963 Lampeter Stallion show BRENIN-Y-BRYNIAU beat PENTRE EIDDWEN COMET into 2nd place. The four £50 Cob Stallion Premiums from that year being:

BRENIN-Y-BRYNIAU, PENTRE EIDDWEN COMET, LLANARTH BRAINT & CARADOG LLWYD

As well as being a popular choice of stallion for outside mares, BRENIN-Y-BRYNIAU also features in all of the distant pedigrees of the mares still at the Brenig Stud, by way of  Flower III (foaled 1961 out of Fanny III ) & Brenihines Brenig (foaled 1965 out of Derby III )

Pictured below is Flower III as a two year old at Lampeter Stallion Show.

Emma, showing Flower III in the photo, continues to be very actively involved in the annual Lampeter Stallion show, being a frequent and much respected steward for the Section D Ring.

BRENIG RHYS f.:1984 (PENLLWYNUCHEL TARAN x Brenig Darby) is another well known Brenig Welsh Cob from the past who achieved much acclaim.  Remembered for his extravagant ground covering action under saddle, he was a many times performance champion in the 1990s.

The stud continues to produce some excellent Stallion Calibre colts and there are a number of Brenig Stallions that are currently on the in hand circuit one of which is BRENIG ANDREW f.:2001 (GWENLLAN SAM x Brenig Flowela) who has recently been jointly purchased by Hadyn Hudson of the Maesyfelin Stud  and Dai Williams of the Dyffryntywi Stud.

Another Stallion currently at Stud and on the ridden circuit is BRENIG  BYRON f.:1999 (TYMOR PELE x Brenig Lili) who is owned by SportHorseWales in Llanfechain, Powys.

Occasionally a filly or mare is sold from the stud and they have been known to excel at a number of disciplines from straightforward showing to circus tricks! - like Brenig Rhian (DERWEN ROYAL EXPRESS x Brenig Ffansi) who has now retired from pyrotechnics to be a very useful broodmare, now owned by the Pensawel Stud (pictured in foal to PENNAL CALON LAN)
